rite, I have a tech problem that is really, really pissing me off.
My cd drive is unusable, so i bought a usb one. It rips cds beautifully! but how the fuck can I burn cds using a usb cd drive? when I insert a blank disc, it doesn't give me the option to burn a cd at all, nore does it in any of the menues. Heeeelp?
I use nero normally, but hey, anything will do rite now lol
This really needs fixing as i have to hand in an assinement on cd after christmas.

You can't go into Nero and "detect cd drive" or something like that?
I take it you just get a pop up when the blank cd is put in and you select options from there.
But if you go into nero, choose type of cd, creat it and then choose "burn to disk" it should detect your drive, or there should be an option to detect it.
I do not have it installed but google for Nero detect usb cd drive or something like that and see if it works.

Well, there isn't a pop up menue when i put the blank cd in, and it finds the inbuilt drive that doesn't work and tries to use that, extremely annoying. I will try googling what you said though, thanks.

Hi,

If you use nero burning rom that comes with nero, have you done the following?
1. go in to nero burning rom.
2. press escape when the new complilation dialog comes up.
3. press control r for choose recorders.
4. tried selecting the different recorders presented in the list other than the image recorder?
If yes, then I'm not sure why nero doesn't detect the recorder.
Perhaps try using a later version?
current version I use is 10.0.1500
If you use nero express, I'm not sure how to select a recorder other than the one which is selected by default.

Other recording programs you can use are:
1. default program for writing files to cd found in windows xp and 7.
2. IMGBurn which is free to use.
3. BurnAware home which I think is also free.
4. Infrarecorder which is also free.
Note: there is also a version of nero which is free, but I can't think of what the exact version is at the time.
Might be nine or ten.

Regards,

I had a problem like that once with Nero,{think it was the express version], it was the drive I think. I don't relaly like nero, like the other programs like infro recorder, IMG burn, stuff like that. Even CD Burner XP is accessible.

Well, first things first, did you check that the drive was a burner before you bought it?

Thanks guys! problem solved now. I got my brother to make it the defalt cd drive in bios, and changed the defalt cd recorder in nero as sugested, i didn't actually think of that, so thanks for pointing that out.
